Reef 2 Reef is a coral restoration program which started as an conservation awareness by the Maritime University of Panama and SCUBAPANAMA.

The coral nurseries are located at Portobelo National Park, in Colon Province.

Staghorn (Acropora cervicornis) is a reef-building hard coral that was previously dominant in the Caribbean. In 2006, this species was listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Staghorn provide critical structural complexity on the reef, and vital habitat for sea life.

Reef 2 Reef program took coral fragments into smaller pieces. These smaller fragments are then hung on a PVC structure, that allow the corals to grow in nurseries. After a certain size, the fragments are transferred to an alternate location, so they can grow and develop.

By booking a tour with us, you contribute to this very important cause. We work closely with the Maritime University, providing structures and materials, as well as being part of the maintenance of corals on a regular basis. Reef2Reef is assuring a future for corals in Panama.
